Innovating for new solutions

Project Literacy is partnering with organizations to design, build and rigorously test game-changing approaches. Why? Because we need radical new solutions if we are reach the most marginalized in our society and bring about change on the scale needed.

Here are a few examples of the partners we’re collaborating with to develop innovations in literacy.

Featured Partner: Worldreader

Worldreader is a San Francisco and Barcelona based non-profit organization on a mission to bring digital books to every child and their family. Using e-readers, mobile phones and other digital technology, Worldreader reaches readers in 69 countries, providing them with over 29,000 book titles in 44 languages.

Project Literacy and Worldreader are partnering together on a mobile technology pilot project in India. Mobile Reading to Children aims to use mobile devices to transform the home environment into a literate one. It’s a great way of empowering parents to talk more and read more to their children.

The Worldreader mobile app provides a rich bank of locally relevant content in both English and Hindi at very low cost to the end user. For the initial pilot, we are focusing on low-income parents in Delhi who have children six years old and younger. We aim to engage 200,000 parents by 2017.
